PURPOSE: A cathode driving apparatus for an electric field emission display is provided to be low an operating frequency and to be capable a screen gray level of multi-step. CONSTITUTION: A shift register(22) successively shifts a data inputting from a video controller by the second timing signal(T2) of a timing generating part. A latch(24) temporarily stores and outputs the data inputting from the shift register(22). A pulse generating part(26) supplies a predetermined pulse width with respect to each data is supplied to the latch(24). An output driving part(28) controls a quantity of electron into each the pick cell of a panel. The pulse generator inputs a control signal to the video controller and the third timing signal part(T3) to the timing generating part, and generates the pulse signal having the different pulse width. When 4-bit data of video memory and the second timing signal(T2) input of the timing generating part input into the shift register(22) of the cathode driving means, the shift register(22) successively shifts and transmits 4-bit data according to the second timing signal. The latch(24) temporarily stores and outputs the data inputting from the shift register(22).
