PURPOSE: An illumination switching system using a programmable microcomputer and a control method thereof are provided to realize a system capable of automatically operating according to contents which a user pre-sets in a desired control way. CONSTITUTION: A micro processor(4) drives an output part based on EEPROM(6) data and includes a clock circuit therein. The EEPROM(6) converts a data into a user program, inputs the user program, and stores the same. A multi-serial communication part(2) enables an easy transfer of the user program and outputs an operation state to the outside. A channel setting part(10) determines a communication channel of the multi-serial communication part(2). An output part(8) operates an output relay according to the program execution result of the micro processor(4) and displays the operation state. A power failure compensation part(14) monitors a failure in the micro processor(4) and supplies a compensation power to the micro processor(4). A power source part(16) supplies a driving power source to each part.
