PURPOSE: A progressive scanning conversion apparatus for use in a projector is to convert a video signal of an interlaced scanning format into that of a progressive scanning format with ease. CONSTITUTION: A data conversion unit(2) samples a video signal of an interlaced scanning format to perform a digital conversion. The first and the second memory units(4,6) store an odd-field video signal and an even-field video signal of the digitalized video signal based on video fields and video scanning lines. A data inverse conversion unit performs an analog conversion to the odd/even video signals. Clock generation units(8,10) generate the first clock(CLK1) and the second clock(CLK2). A control unit(16) generates the first and the second write enable signals(WE1,WE2) and the first and the second read enable signals(RE1,RE2) to the first and the second memory units. The first and the second memory units store the odd-field video signal and the even-field video signal in response to the first and the second clocks and the first and the second write enable signals. The video signals stored in the first and the second memory units are synthesized in response to the second clock and the first and the second read enable signals based on the video scanning lines.
