the invention comprises 10-aminoalkyl-11-oxo - 10,11 - dihydro -dibenzo[b,f][1,4]oxazepines, in which the amino group is a secondary or tertiary amino group and is separated from the ring nitrogen atom by at least 2 carbon atoms, and which contain in at least one of the benzo-rings a nitro group; and their acid addition salts. The benzo-rings may contain, in addition to nitro groups, other substituents, e.g. alkyl, alkoxy or alkanoyl groups or halogen atoms. The compounds are prepared by reacting an 11-oxo-10,11-dihydro-dibenzo[b,f][1,4] oxazepine, in which at least one of the benzo-rings contains a nitro group, or a salt thereof, with an aminoalkyl halide in which the amino portion is separated from the halogen atom by at least 2 carbon atoms, and optionally converting an aminoalkyl group in a compound so obtained into a different aminoalkyl group. 10 - (3 - N - Cyano - N - methyl - amino-propyl) - 2 - nitro - 11 - oxo - 10,11 - dihydro - dibenzo - [b,f][1,4] oxazepine is prepared by reacting 10 - (3 - dimethylaminopropyl) - 2 - nitro - 11 - oxo - 10,11 - dihydro - dibenzo[b,f] [1,4] oxazepine with cyanogen bromide. 10 - (3 - N - Carbethoxy - N - methyl - aminopropyl) - 2 - nitro - 11 - oxo - 10,11 - dihydro-dibenzo-[b,f][1,4] oxazepine is prepared by reacting 10 - (3 - dimethylaminopropyl) - 2 - nitro-11 - oxo - 10,11 - dihydro - dibenzo[b,f][1,4] oxazepine with ethyl chloroformate. 10 - (3 - N - Formyl - N - methyl - amino-propy) - 2 - nitro - 11 - oxo - 10,11 - dihydro - dibenzo-[b,f][1,4] oxazepine is prepared by reacting the sodium salt of 2-nitro-11-oxo-10,11-dihydro-dibenzo[b,f][1,4] oxazepine with 3-N-formyl-N-methylamino-propyl chloride. Pharmaceutical compositions having anti-acetyl-choline, anti-serotonine, anti-histamine, anti-inflammatory, local anaesthetic and anti-depressive action comprise a compound of the invention together with a carrier.
