PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an optical scanner compact and more reliable by arranging this scanner in such a manner that the light emitted from a light source may be cast onto an object to be scanned and that the light modulated by the object to be scanned may be cast onto a photodetecting means. SOLUTION: This optical scanner includes an assembly for scanning having the light source 2 installed in a stationary position on a supporting disk 4 installed rotatably around an axis 5 and the photodetecting means 3. The disk 4 has a hole. The light source 2 is so arranged that the light radiated therefrom can be directed through the hole onto a photoexcitable phosphorescent screen 1 to be scanned. The detecting means 3 is so installed on the supporting disk 4 that the light emitted by the photoexcitable phosphorescent screen 1 after the excitation falls onto the detecting means 3. The disk 4 rotates around the axis 5 in such a manner that the substantially circular linear scanning may be obtained during the scanning operation. The screen 1 is transported during this time so as to pass by a substrate plate toward an arrow 6.
