When the surface of paper money to be a discriminating object is irradiated with ultraviolet rays emitted from the bulb 1, patterns formed on the surface are floated in visible states. Therefore, the authenticity of paper money can be discriminated based on the patterns. As a result, because the authenticity of paper money can be discriminated at necessary time and at a necessary place, an extremely convenient counterfeit paper money discovering device can be realized.
