PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the coating failure of display surface at a visible level or more by restricting failures existing in a coating film coated on a surface of a glass panel of a display surface in a display area to a visible level or less of area, depth or reflection luminance. SOLUTION: In the case of inspecting failure, an inspecting system 12 is arranged close to a coating surface of an object 18 to be inspected. The diffusing surface lighting light from a lighting system formed of a fluorescent lamp 6 or the like is radiated to the coating surface to be inspected, and the light reflected by the coating surface is caught by an area sensor 9 through a half mirror 10, and the image signal 15 is detected, and input to a control device 17. Failure is detected by utilizing the characteristic that the light reflected from the failure part is strong. Namely, the even light is radiated to the display surface, and a failure at a visible level or more existing in the coating film in the display area of the display surface is detected on the basis of the image signal obtained by photographing the display surface.
