PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and surely remove a lead character from a cassette with simple constitution. SOLUTION: The lead character removing device 10 has a roller member 50 which is disposed at a cassette loading section 22 and is rotatable in a position where the lead character 42 stuck to the cassette 24 passes and a rotational drive mechanism 52 which rotates the roller member 50 in a direction opposite to the loading direction of the cassette 24 relatively to the cassette 24 in order to remove the lead character 42 from the cassette 24.
