摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an initialization device which stably and easily initializes an optical recording medium to be initialized without requiring a focus servo means and to provide a phase transition type optical recording medium having a recording layer of a uniform crystalline state over the entire surface of an information signal recording and reproducing area by using this device. SOLUTION: The initialization device for the phase transition type optical recording medium for changing the recording layer of amorphous state formed on the optical recording medium to be initialized which is a precursor of the phase transition type optical recording medium to the crystalline state by irradiating the above recording layer with a laser beam emitted from a laser beam source to the crystal state has a high-speed shutter to be excited in tip state that the laser beam source, for example, a YAG laser 3, does not start oscillation. The laser beam of which the peak powder is set at >=10,000 times that at the time of continuous oscillation is emitted within an extremely short time of about several 10 to several 100 ns.
