PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid the generation of lighting failure in a discharge lamp lighting device having a direct current booster circuit and a lighting circuit formed of a direct current - alternating current inverter by securely resetting a protecting circuit unit even in the case where a lighting switch for turning on/off the lighting input voltage is instantaneously cut. SOLUTION: This discharge lamp lighting device boosts the input voltage from a direct current power source 1 by a direct current booster circuit 3, and converts to the alternating current by a DC-AC inverter 4 to supply the lighting power to a discharge lamp 6. The rated current or more is applied for instantaneous lighting in starting the discharge lamp 6, and the output is stopped by a protecting circuit unit 9 in response to an abnormal output condition. When a lighting switch 2 is instantaneously cut, the reset pulse is output to the protecting circuit unit 9 so as to securely reset the protecting circuit unit 9 when the input voltage rises from the lowest voltage capable of maintaining the lighting of the discharge lamp 6 to the starting possible voltage or more. |
