PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element capable of displaying a color picture whose brightness of a screen is sufficient. SOLUTION: Colored lights are emitted from areas (a) corresponding to color filters in pixel areas A by respectively forming pixel electrodes 12 in shapes corresponding to the whole of the pixel area A having a prescribed area and by respectively forming color filters 15R, 15G, 15B in shapes respectively having an area smaller than that of the pixel area A and high-intensity noncolored lights are emitted from areas which do not correspond to color filters in the pixel areas A and brighter colored pixels are displayed by these lights and also display pixels are made to be more brighter by providing opening parts 8a corresponding to areas except facing parts with the compensating capacitance wiring 4 of the pixel electrodes 12 on gate insulating films of TFTs 6 and by enhancing the intensity of the outgoing lights from areas corresponding to the opening parts 8a of the gate insulating films 8 in the pixel areas A by amounts in which the absorption due to the gate insulating films are not present.
