PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a message slave station to identify category contents such as the emergency and commonness of a message stored in a voice box of a voice storage device. SOLUTION: This voice message notification system has a voice storage device 12 which stores a voice message to a portable terminal 16 and a PBX 11 which performs cable or radio connection of the portable terminal 16 with the voice storage device 12 through a communication network. Here, a transmission necessity/unnecessity discriminating means 126 discriminates the necessity/ unnecessity of a transmission operation to the portable terminal 16 about a voice message based on message category information about the voice message stored in a message category storing means 25 and when the means 26 discriminates that a transmission operation to the portable terminal 16 is necessary, a transmission operation in which a transmission signal including the message category information is transmitted to the terminal 16 is carried out based on the telephone number of the terminal 16 read from an object terminal number storing means 123.
