PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system equipped with a linear amplifier for effectively reducing the transmission power consumption of a transmitter in a base station or a mobile device, and to provide the transmitter therefor. SOLUTION: This transmitter is equipped with plural linear amplifiers which are different in saturation output and are connected in series or in parallel with a main path, a by-pass means for by-passing one part of the linear amplifiers as a sub-path, and a synthesizer for vector-synthesizing the signals of the main path and the sub-path. At the time of transmitting a low output, the output of the linear amplifier having no by-pass path is extracted, and the power supply of the linear amplifier having the by-pass means is limited by the by-pass means. Thus, the power consumption of the transmitter itself can be reduced.
