PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording material having enough image removing performance by incorporating a water-swellable resin component and a specified proportion of fine particle component into the surface layer. SOLUTION: This recording material which can be recycled consists of at least a base body layer 1 and surface layer 3. The surface layer 3 contains at least a water-swellable resin component and fine particle component, and the fine particle component is incorporated by 1 to 50 pts.wt. to 100 pts.wt. of the water-swellable resin. In this case, the base layer 1 has water proof property (strength), and a transparent plastic film or a plastic film converted into opaque by addition of inorg. fine particles is preferably used. The surface layer 3 formed on the base body layer 1 consists of a water-swellable resin and fine particles, and the water-swellable property means that the resin is swollen with water or aq. solvent but does not dissolve. The water-swellable resin is prepared by crosslinking a water soluble resin.
