PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flatness measuring roller being used at the time of rolling a metal strip in which practical lifetime is enhanced and/or hot rolling is permitted or the surface of a strip can be affected when it is appropriate. SOLUTION: A measuring sensor 3 being set in a roller recess 2 while being spaced apart from the wall thereof is covered with a easing 10, e.g. a roller shell, preferably of 3-5 mm thick having high heat treating properties and/or relatively high abrasion resistance and/or tempering properties and/or low heat conductivity and/or a structured surface.
