PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain excellent image quality even when each color print unit is a line unit and also to perform density correction corresponding to printable color combination by ufjecting the results obtained by correcting each pixel density of an original image in each color component to M-valued coding and allocating it to each color stripe of every block. SOLUTION: A density correcting means 19 corrects each component of yellow components Y, magenta components M and cyan components C in one pixel of a color image at the time of performing density correction of the color image. An M-valued coding means 20 performs M-valued coding of this corrected image, and outputs an image represented by four colors which are Y, M, C and white W. In this case, one pixel consists of values which each pixel value of the Y, M and C is subjected to M-valued coding. A format converting means 21 performs format conversion of this into such a manner that each stripe of the Y, M and C and the W can be outputted to a printable medium. Each color component constituting one pixel in an original image is represented by a square block, obtained by decomposing into each color stripe of every block, and making the length for three stripes one side.
