PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize picture quality by adding a correction voltage to the output of an operation reference voltage generating circuit because the luminance characteristic against the driving voltage of a liquid crystal panel fluctuates by temperature. SOLUTION: Voltages V1 and V2 are made into constant voltages. Then, a compensation voltageδV(T) is set as a function of environmental temperature T to compensate for the temperature characteristic of a liquid crystal panel. Then, an operation reference voltage generating circuit 19 generates a first operation reference voltage Vref1=V1+δV(T) and a second operation reference voltage Vref2=V2-δV(T) based on the output of a temperature sensor 20 and alternatively outputs these voltages to opposed electrodes 14 for every horizontal scanning time or vertical scanning time t.
