PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compose a self-holding type of switch with low loss in a good yield. SOLUTION: A self-holding type of switch with low loss is structured in a good yield by achieving switching by forming a wedge-shaped groove 22 crossing two arm waveguides 20, 21 and inserting and retreating a refractive index matching oil into and out of the groove, and achieving self-holding ability by reducing switching power extremely low without using total reflection.
