PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transmit to a calling side an absence notifying a message informing that a user is unable to answer the phone. SOLUTION: A message which notifies absence is recorded previously in a recording IC 3. An absence notifying mode is set with the operation of the dial key of a key operation part 2. The recording of the message can be realized in 10 ways of dial keys, 0-9. The setting of the absence notifying mode is realized by long time depression of the dial keys 0-9. When the absence notifying mode is set, an answer is automatically given, when an incoming call arrives and the message equivalent to the dial key which is depressed over a long time is repetitively informed to a calling opposite party. When the absence notifying mode is set, the message is displayed on an LCD display part 4. The absence notifying mode is released by the long re-depression of the dial key which corresponds to the message.
