PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve operability at receiving of a character message. SOLUTION: A call setting signal showing that a character message is transmitted from a caller side and the character message are received by a transmission/reception circuit 1, without answering an incoming call. The received character message is stored in a memory 5. An informing means 13 executes informing operation by the reception of a call setting signal. A receiver can read the message by viewing a display means 4. Thus, the message from a caller can be received on a real-time basis and the answer to the incoming call is not required. Thus, a call rate is not generated on a receiver side. Then, incoming operation is executed by operating an answer key 9, and the call processing of a telephone can also be executed by using a microphone 21 and a loudspeaker 22.
