PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the mounting device and the mounting method of an optical fiber element, which can improve mounting accuracy and the production efficiency. SOLUTION: In the optical-fiber element mounting device, which mounts the optical-fiber element for optical communication in a package, a positioning means which performs the position alignment of an optical fiber element 8 around an axis in the directionθ, is provided in the temporary mounting stage that picks up an optical fiber element 8 from a supply part and temporarily sets an element. The position aligning means comprises a rotating mechanism, which rotates the optical fiber element 8 by a motor 43, and a laser irradiation device 50 and an optical receiver, which detects the slant direction of the tip surface of a fiber 8b. With a timing that the light-receiving part 51 receives light, the motor 43 is stopped. Thus, position alignment is performed in the directionθwith the timing, when the light receiving part 51 has received the laser light. Thus, it is not necessary to perform position alignment by the manual work of a worker, and the mounting accuracy and the production efficiency can be improved.
