PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control the temperature of samples with high accuracy and to permit the speedy processing of a large amount of samples by sequentially guiding exciting light to each of sample containers on a sample holder spread in a circle by the rotation of a partition plate and simultaneously detecting fluorescence. SOLUTION: Sample containers are spread in a circle on a sample holder 4 arranged in a thermostatic chamber 9, and laser light is projected from a light source 8 such as an argon ion laser, etc. Then the laser light is reflected upward along the a rotating shaft by a reflecting mirror provided below the rotating shaft, is reflected toward the sample containers by an optical means (rectangular prism) 5 for excitation on a partition plate 3 rotated by a driving means 7 to excite samples in selected sample containers sequentially. Then fluorescence emitted by the samples is projected from the lower part of the sample holder 4, is converged onto the ring part 1a of a light guide 1 via the hole and ball lens of an optical means 6 for fluorescence, is passed through an interference filter from a bundle part 1b, becomes incident onto an optical sensor (photomultiplier) 2, and is detected.
