The locking unit consists of a locking barrel (8) operated by a key (12). A tubular sleeve (5), fixed to the rod (3) is adapted to receive and retain the locking barrel (8) when the tap is closed. The locking barrel has at the opposite end to the key a geometrical shape that engages with the head of the rod (4) when the tap is in the closed position. An internal vertical slot (6) in the sleeve associated with a pin (9) attached to the locking barrel prevents the barrel from being rotated once the key is removed.
