PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device in which distortion and blur are not present in a picture which is to be obtained by projecting a picture on a picture display panel on the screen arranged in an oblique direction and in which the total size of an optical system capable of projecting the picture while having a high optical performance is miniaturized by using an off-axial optical system. SOLUTION: This device is a projection type display device projecting the picture on a picture display panel 3 on a screen 5 by a projection optical system. In this device, a center line connecting the center of the picture display panel 3 and the center of the projected picture is not vertical to at least one side of the surface of the picture display panel 3 or the surface of the screen 5 and the projection optical system has at least one of an off-axial optical block 4 which includes an off-axial surface being an aspherical shape having 0 or one of the symmetric surface of a broad sense and has refractive power capable of forming a real image on the whole.
