PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte for middle and high voltage, high in spark voltage and besides favorable in high temperature life property. SOLUTION: This is an electrolyte where an aliphatic carbonic acid compound 13-34 in total number of carbons shown in figure 1 or its salt is added by 0.1-10 wt.% into an electrolyte, where one or two or more kinds of polyhydric alcohol complex of boric acid or its salt is dissolved in a solvent mainly composed of ethylene glycol, and this is high in spark voltage and is favorable in high temperature life property. Accordingly, an electrolytic capacitor, which is favorable in withstand voltage and overvoltage property and further is low in capacity change after life test and tanδchange and is favorable in life property, can be obtained by using this electrolyte. What is more, in the formula, R1 or R8 is an alkyl group or a hydrogen atom 1-4 in number of carbons, and at least one is an alkyl group.
