PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make wear resistance of a piston skirt compatible with low friction. SOLUTION: A piston 1 for an internal combustion engine is machined such that ten point average coarseness Rz of the surface 15 of a skirt part 3 is adjusted to 10μm or less and a groove 16 having a groove width of 30-100μm is formed in the surface 15. By increasing a contact area, a bearing pressure is lowered, and the occurrence of wear and friction is reduced. Further, since oil is held in the groove 16, lubricity is kept well.
