摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce sputtering in glow/arc transfer, to shorten transfer time and to miniaturize a lighting device by lowering starting voltage. SOLUTION: A power supply conductor 2 sealed at both the ends of a translucent discharge container 1 is constituted of a sealing part 2a and a halide- resistant part 2b and an electrode 4 disposed at a tip of the power supply conductor 2 is mainly constituted of a plate. The electrode 4 can be compactly constituted for an increase in surface area by curving the plate part around a shaft of the power supply conductor 2 in a cylindrical shape, for instance. As a result, because surface area of the electrode 4 is increased and electrode surface current density is lowered, sputtering is reduced. By making it possible to reduce heat capacity of the electrode 4, glow arc transfer time is shortened. Further, electron radiation performance is improved and starting voltage is lowered by an edge effect by an edge at an end face of the plate of the electrode 4.
