PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for a bulking agent for a liquid chromatography free from swelling, shrinkage and prolongation of an equilibration time, excellent in production reproducibility, and having a reduced difference among production lots. SOLUTION: This bulking agent for a liquid chromatography is manufactured by (i) the first process for dispersing into an aqueous dispersive medium a polymerizable mixture containing a hydrohobic cross-linking monomer and a polymerization initiator, (ii) the second process for ploymerizing the dispersion for 20-240 minutes at 50-100 deg.C, (iii) the third process for cooling the reactionsystem of the polymerization to 10-40 deg.C, (iv) the fourth process for adding a cation exchange group containing monomer into the reaction system, (v) the fifth process for stirring the reaction system for 0.5-24 hours at 10-40 deg.C after the addition, (vi) the 6th process for conducting polymerization reaction for the reaction system at 50-100 deg.C, and for finishing polymerization within 20-240 minutes after initiation of tire polymerization at a stage having 0.1-20% of polymerization rate with respect to an addition amount of the cation exchange group containing monomer, and (iiv) the 7th process for washing a resulting polymer.
