Novel compounds of the general formula <FORM:1108180/C2/1> where R1 is C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 alkoxy, fluorine, chlorine or bromine and R2 is hydrogen, C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 alkoxy, fluorine, chlorine or bromine, are prepared by treating a compound of the formula <FORM:1108180/C2/2> where R3 represents hydrogen, methyl or ethyl with a hydrogenation catalyst in the presence of an alkanol. If R3 is hydrogen, the starting material may be in the form of its thioketal. The invention also includes the acid-addition salts of the novel compounds. Therapeutic compositions having anti-phlogistic, analgesic and anti-pyretic properties contain at least one compound of the first general formula above or a non-toxic acid-addition salt thereof, together with at least one pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The compositions may be formulated as tablets, dragees, suppositories or ampoules and may be administered orally or parenterally.
