PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical amplifier of less gain deviation and high reliability, related to an optical amplifier and a fiber module for optical amplification. SOLUTION: An optical amplifier of small gain deviation comprises non- quartz fibers 76 and 78 which are doped with rare-earth and a fiber holder 80 where non-quartz fiber is inserted and fixed. The fiber holder is so optically provided that the signal light to be amplified is propagated in the non-quartz fiber. The non-quartz fiber is pumped so that it provides a gain band comprising the wavelength of signal light. Since the non-quartz fiber is easily shielded from outside air by tightly closing both ends of the fiber folder, the non-quartz fiber becomes physically or chemically stable. In order to reduce gain deviation at 1.55μm band, a fluoride glass fiber is appropriate for the non-quartz fiber. |
