PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring and controlling system capable of flexibly coping with the difference of equipment constitution in respective devices to be monitored and surely monitoring a fault. SOLUTION: In this monitoring and controlling system constituted of a network constituted of the plural devices to be monitored and one or plural monitoring and controlling terminals for monitoring and controlling the network and the respective devices to be monitored, the respective devices 1 to be monitored are provided with an equipment constitution contact point detection part 11 for detecting the constitution information of the device itself and a constitution information storage part 14 for storing the detected constitution information. The respective monitoring and controlling terminals 2 are provided with a function control part 23 for reading the constitution information from the constitution information storage part 14 through a communication means, an image construction part 24 for automatically constructing the summary image of the respective devices 1 to be monitored based on the read constitution information and an image display part 25 for displaying the automatically constructed summary image of the respective devices 1 to be monitored.
