PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce change of a peak value of received light quantity distribution of a light receiving element in an optical sensor which obtains information concerning distance, by casting a light from a projection part and using reflection from an object to be detected existing in a specified range of measuring distance. SOLUTION: A projection means converges a projection light beam and casts it on an object detecting region. The projection light beam is so converged that a convergent distance Lf is inside a measuring distance range. As a result, when a distance from the object to be detected changes, change of a peak level and change of a peak width can be reduced, although the peak position of received light distribution on a CCD 20 of a light receiving means changes.
