PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To collect molten slag as particulate slag by receiving molten slag directly in a slag cooler having a slag cooling face and rolling the slag on the cooling face thereby cooling and solidifying high temperature molten slag directly, as it is, without passing through a supply unit. SOLUTION: A gradual slag cooler 9 of jacket structure having a slag cooling face 1 receiving molten slag 2 directly and scatters the slag in the form of liquid drops by a surface tension generated through collision against the cooling face. In addition to direct cooling with atmospheric gas 3 around the molten slag 2, the slag 2A on the cooling face is cooled through heat exchange with cooling medium 4 flowing through a jacket 10 disposed under the cooling face and the slag is discharged as particulate slag 5 through gravitational rolling action generated by the inclining cooling face. In order to roll the slag gravitationally, inclination angle of the slag cooling face 1 with respect to horizon is set at 300 deg. or above, preferably between 35 deg.-45 deg..
