PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to stably produce a silver halide photographic emulsion which is monodisperse in the distribution of a projection area diameter and is high in tabulation rate by generating a nuclei of silver halide with a static mixing type external mixer by using gelatin of below a specific methionine content value in specific weight % of a dispersion medium. SOLUTION: A soluble silver salt solution is introduced from an inlet 1 and a halide solution from an inlet 2 through the respective pipes among the pipes of a Tee shape which are the static mixing type external mixer. After the nuclei are formed by colliding and mixing of the nuclear reaction solution, the nuclei are immediately released from a reaction product outlet 3. The nuclei released from this outlet 3 are moved into a vessel 4 for maturation and growth. The dispersion is stirred by stirring vanes 5, by which the maturation and growth are effected. Preservatives, such as gelatin and water soluble polymers, are preferably added to part or the whole of the soluble halide and silver salt solutions to be used at this time. The gelatin to be added as the preservative is <=3 mg/g in the methionine content at 10 to 100 wt.% of the dispersion medium.
