Cardioverter has a morphology detector (3) for detecting and evaluating ECG signals to differentiate between different tachycardiac states of the heart. Morphology detector has signal width detector (10), threshold discriminator (11) and comparator (12) coupled to signal width detector and threshold discriminator. The discriminator compares the selected and determined current signal width with a predefined selection parameter for differentiating between two different tachycardiac states.
