A make-up compsn. for eyelashes and eyebrows, comprising a fatty phase based on waxes with m.pt. 50-110 degrees C, and an aq. phase based on water-sol, film-forming polymers in soln., contains (a) 0-14 wt.% of waxes (I) with Reinhold needle penetration at 25 degrees C of 1-7.5, and 2-40% of waxes (II) with Reinhold needle penetration at 25 degrees C of 7.5-217, with ratio by wt. of (I):(II) being below 2, and (b) as emulsifier and inhibitor of growth of microorganisms, a mixt. of (III) a 10-20C ethoxylated glyceryl acylate and (IV) a 10-20C (non-)-ethoxylated glyceryl acylate, such that the Griffin HLB of the mixt. is 6-15. The use of a mixt. of (III) and (IV), with HLB 6-15, as inhibitor of the growth of microorganisms in cosmetic emulsions is claimed. Strains which are inhibited include Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus faecalis, Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger. |
