TRIBOMETER WITH DYNAMIC BRAKING

Automated tribometer (2) measures the coefficient of friction of tread and gauge surfaced railroad rail (12). Tribometer (2) includes a test cart (100) and pushing vehicle attachment assembly (200). Also shown are right front cart wheel (24R) and right rear cart wheel (34R). Test cart (100) includes front axle assembly (20), rear axle assembly (30), gauge surface test assembly (40), tread surface test assembly (50) and a braking assembly (60) for dynamically braking testing wheel (54) to the point of creepage. During tread surface testing air cylinder (56), which has a rod end (57) and a cap end (59), extends upper end (53) of test frame (52) thus lowering lower end (55) including tread test axle (51) and tread testing wheel (54) about pivot (58) so that testing wheel (54) makes frictional contact with rail (12).
