An adjustable chair mechanism for adjusting a chair seat is disclosed. The adjustable chair mechanism allows for the adjustment of the chair seat relative to the chair base. The mechanism comprises a pawl, that engages a slotted rack mounted to the underside of the chair seat. Disengagement of the pawl from the slotted rack is accomplished through tensioning a co-axial cable.
