An autodepositing liquid composition comprises dispersed non-film-forming polymer particles in addition to the dispersed film forming polymer characteristic of all autodepositing liquid compositions. Preferably, the no n- film-forming polymer particles are gas-tight microballoons filled with a gas such as air and have an average particle size less than 1.mu.m. Such particl es act in the autodepositing liquid compositions and in the dried coatings form ed from them as opaque white pigments, unless the coatings are heated above abo ut 130~C. if so heated, the coatings, unless they contain other heat stable pigments, become irreversibly transparent.
