The deflector acquires the arriving document (10) at its leading edge with at least one input roller (14) and outputs it again in the opposite direction with its rear edge leading. At least one output roller (18) is arranged axis-parallel and offset in height with reference to the input roller. A reversing roller (22) on the opposite side of the input roller from the input side acquires the document from the input roller and transports it on. The direction of the reversing roller is then reversed to feed the document to the output roller with its rear edge leading.
