A method for monitoring a filter (4) that is mounted upstream from a useful electric circuit (1), comprising filter components (6, 7) with a filter characteristic (C, L). When the useful circuit (1) is in operation, one time characteristic corresponding to at least one filter current (ID, IK) flowing inside said filter and one time characteristic corresponding to at least one filter voltage (UK, UN) present inside said filter are detected. At least one filter characteristic (C, L) is determined from the time characteristics. The invention also relates to a corresponding monitoring device.
