PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-quality stable image by an inexpensive device with high productivity when a color image (color proof) for proofreading can be obtained by scanning and exposing a silver halide color photographic sensitive material based on dot picture information. SOLUTION: When an image recording material respectively mainly having at least yellow, magenta and cyan image forming units each is exposed based on the digitized dot picture information so that a dot area multilevel image is formed, it is exposed with exposure equal to or more than binary at the photosensitive area of at least one image forming unit of the image recording material in this image forming method.
