The rack (4) has upper fixing elements for attachment to the bodywork (K1) outside the boot lid or hatch (2), with a pivot on the rack lying above and/or below the top edge f the lid so that the rack can be turned up for the lid to be opened. The rack also has lower fixing elements which can be connected to the lid. There are leveling devices (26, 42) between the pivot and the lower fixing elements to compensate for movements of the lid relative to the carrier when the lid is turned with the carrier attached.
