Video signals must have a certain data format in order to be displayed on a screen. The conversion to a suitable data format takes place using allocation instructions. According to the invention, the allocation instructions are loaded only when required and overwritten in the case of an application with a different data format rather than being permanently stored and then selected according to the application. The invention therefore provides an alternative to expensive memories with short access times for each application.
