An animal feed composition having growth-promoting activity comprises a phthalazinone derivative of the general formula:- <FORM:1110581/A5-A6/1> wherein R represents hydrogen, a lower alkyl (i.e. having 1-4 carbon atoms) radical, or one of the groups <FORM:1110581/A5-A6/2> , wherein R3 represents an alkoxy or alkenyloxy group, R4 is the amino group or -OX, where X is hydrogen or a cation of an inorganic or organic base, which cation is non-toxic to warm-blooded animals, and n=1, 2, or 3 R1 represents p hydrogen, halogen or the nitro group, and R2 represents a lower alkyl radical, halogen, or the group -OY, where Y is hydrogen or a cation of an inorganic or organic base which cation is non toxic to warm-blooded animals, the derivative being in admixture with physiologically compatible diluents or carriers suitable for oral ingestion, which may themselves be at least partially constituted by nutrient materials. |
