The telecommunication installation includes at least one digital control unit (16) controlling several peripheral units (18) designed for linking at least one base station (13) assigned a given number of working channels (K1 to K12). Each working channel can be used for radio transmission between the base station and a mobile station (14). A given number of code converters (56) are designed for transferring useful data sent from the mobile station to the control unit, from a first code state established for radio transmission, into a second code state suitable for data processing in the control unit, and back again. The active working channels (K4,K10) can switch the code converters (56) into free association, under the surveillance of the control unit.
