The illuminating system is for the indicating instrument having a printed circuit-board (3), carrying the instrument movement (7) and other discrete components (4,5,6) on its rear face, which is fixed to a supporting structure (1) of e.g. ABS material. In a central wall (15) accommodating the pointer spindle (11), surface-mounted LEDs (9,10) direct light on to the central zone of an e.g. polycarbonate face-plate (2). This central zone has a central aperture with a bevelled rim (16), forming a reflective surface, directing light radially outwards through the plate, which functions as an optical guide, to illuminate dial markings (14) incorporated in a serigraphic film (13) carried on the front. In addition, light refracted at the rear edge (17) of the face-plate aperture illuminates the pointer (12). Further LEDs (8) are provided in peripheral positions. |
