Disclosed is an airbag system for motor vehicles comprising air-conditioning ducts (2, 3). The gas duct (8) leading to the airbag (9) can be arranged in a section (11) of an air-conditioning duct. The air-conditioning ducts (2, 3) are connected to an air-conditioning device. The gas duct (8) is connected to a gas source (7) that fills the airbag (9) via the gas duct (8) when an accident occurs. One part of the air-conditioning ducts can also be used as gas ducts, whereby valves can be used to decouple the gas ducts from the air-conditioning ducts.
