A wind driven energy system has a number of airfoil-shaped vanes (9) fitted to an endless belt in a parallel configuration, with the belt sloping between lower and higher supports. The vanes are angled for optimum attack angle to the wind and are driven by the wind when rising or falling during the belt cycle. Support belts link the ends of the vanes and loop the vanes over the lower and upper drums, which have similar diameters. A simple vane construction has a rigid frame with flexible upper and lower skins which are shaped by the wind.
