The remote payment method uses a hand-held mobile radio device (3) communicating with a base communications station (1) via a radio link. The base communications station transmits the data required for remote payment of goods or services to the mobile radio device, with confirmation provided by the user of the mobile radio device to allow payment to be made. The latter may be effected via a direct link between the mobile radio device and the bank (6), when the received payment data is confirmed by the user.
